Two versions, one bridge

Match the bridge to your software stack

Mediator Direct

Our most direct, native-feel connection

Mediator Direct talks to your CMM controller using its native protocol, without an intermediate interface layer. That gives you the most direct connection available, with behaviour as close to a factory-native CMM setup as possible.

Built for PC-DMIS and MCOSMOS users who want to:

  • Keep existing part programs unchanged
  • Drive a non-native CMM brand with their preferred software
  • Preserve full controller-level error compensation and probing
  • Avoid operator retraining, the software behaves exactly the same

Currently supported

PC-DMIS driving Mitutoyo, Zeiss, LK, Wenzel and other supported controllers.
MCOSMOS driving Hexagon, Zeiss, LK, Wenzel and other supported controllers.

Paired with the EasyCMM Chameleon controller, Mediator Direct is fully supported for PC-DMIS and MCOSMOS, including scanning.

On third-party controllers, probing support rolls out tactile-first, we develop tactile probing for each combination first and add scanning per platform and controller over time, so a supported combination may be tactile-only today. Check with us about your scanning requirement.

Mediator Direct is expanding to more platforms. Run something else? Tell us and we’ll notify you when Direct support arrives, meanwhile, I++ Server has you covered.

Mediator I++ Server

The universal CMM bridge

Mediator I++ Server uses the standardised I++ DME interface to connect virtually any I++-capable inspection software to virtually any major CMM controller. It is the original Mediator product, in production use across the industry today, and the right choice for any software outside PC-DMIS and MCOSMOS.

The right choice if you run:

PolyWorks · Calypso · Verisurf · Metrolog · Modus · Camio · TouchDMIS · Quartis · CM · Rational-DMIS · Power Inspect · NX-CMM (Siemens), or practically any software with an I++ client module.

What you get:

  • Freedom to use or switch between any I++-compatible platform
  • A single, unified workflow across a mixed-brand CMM fleet
  • Hardware stays untouched, no retrofit, no rewiring

Why Mediator

Expand your software flexibility, keep your machines

Preserve your existing assets

No hardware upgrades, part-program rewrites or protocol adaptation. Your investment stays intact; only your software flexibility expands.

Consolidate your software & cut costs

Running a different inspection package on every CMM brand? Standardise your whole fleet on fewer platforms, the ones your team prefers. You cut license renewals and maintenance, reduce training, and let everyone work in the software they know best.

Keep your error maps

Mediator reads and compensates almost any existing error map on the market, Hexagon (DEA, B&S), Mitutoyo, Zeiss, LK, Wenzel, at original precision, across brands.

No operator retraining

Operators keep using the inspection software they already know. The workflow is identical, only the machine on the other end changes.

Fast, cost-effective deployment

Mediator installs in a few hours, not weeks. No downtime-heavy retrofit project, no consultants on-site for days.

How Mediator works

A real-time bridge between your software and your CMM

Mediator sits between your inspection software and your CMM controller, translating commands in real time. Either way, the part program runs unchanged and the CMM behaves as if it were paired with its original OEM software.

Mediator Direct, native protocol

Speaks the controller’s native protocol: the shortest possible path between PC-DMIS or MCOSMOS and a non-native CMM, preserving performance and full controller-level compensation.

Mediator I++ Server, universal interface

Acts as a universal I++ DME server. Your software sends standard I++ commands; Mediator converts them to your controller’s proprietary driver commands and executes them as if it were the original OEM client.

Compensation, handled correctly

For maps held in the controller, Mediator transmits points after the controller has compensated them. For maps stored on the PC, Mediator reads the map, builds its own internal error map, and compensates the values coming from the controller.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Mediator?

Mediator is a software bridge that lets CMM owners run their preferred inspection software on the CMM hardware they already own, no retrofits required. It can drive all leading CMM brands and models with practically any major inspection software, supporting tactile probes, scanning touch probes and Kreon line laser heads.

What’s the difference between Mediator Direct and Mediator I++ Server?

Mediator Direct talks to the CMM controller using its native protocol, giving the most direct connection available with behaviour as close to a factory-native setup as possible. It currently supports PC-DMIS and MCOSMOS. Mediator I++ Server uses the standardised I++ DME interface and supports every other major platform, Calypso, PolyWorks, Verisurf, Metrolog and more. Both eliminate the need for hardware changes.

Will Mediator Direct support my inspection software in the future?

We are actively extending Mediator Direct to additional platforms. If you run software outside PC-DMIS and MCOSMOS today, Mediator I++ Server already supports you, and you can sign up to be notified when Direct support arrives for your specific software.

How does Mediator handle compensation values?

For error maps that live in the CMM controller, Mediator transmits points after the controller has already compensated them. For error maps stored on the PC running the original CMM client software, Mediator reads the map, builds its own internal error map, and uses it to compensate the values coming from the controller.

Which CMM client software is supported?

PC-DMIS and MCOSMOS via Mediator Direct. PolyWorks, Calypso, Verisurf, Metrolog, Modus, Camio, TouchDMIS, Quartis, CM, Rational-DMIS, Power Inspect, NX-CMM (Siemens) and practically any software with an I++ client module via Mediator I++ Server.

Which CMM controllers are supported?

Hexagon FB2/B3C, DC240C/DC800, RC1 · Leitz B3/B4/B5 · Mitutoyo UC100/200/300/400 and CMMC-1/3/5 · LK Nikon NMC100/200/300 · Pantec Eagle · Wenzel WPC 2010/2020/2030/2040 · Zeiss C99L · Sheffield UMP 360 · Sharpe32.

Do I need to retrain my operators?

No. Operators continue using the inspection software they already know, PC-DMIS, MCOSMOS, Calypso, PolyWorks or any other supported platform. The interface and workflow are identical to a native setup.

Can Mediator run on my existing PC, or do I need new hardware?

Mediator runs on a standard Windows PC alongside your inspection software. No new hardware is required.

Does Mediator work with scanning and line laser, not just tactile probes?

Mediator I++ Server supports tactile probes, scanning touch probes and Kreon line laser heads. Mediator Direct is fully supported, including scanning, on the EasyCMM Chameleon controller. On third-party controllers it is developed tactile-first, with scanning added per platform and controller over time, so a given Direct combination may be tactile-only today. Contact us to confirm scanning support for your specific setup.

Is there a mandatory annual service and maintenance fee?

The annual service and maintenance fee is not mandatory but is strongly recommended. We continuously update Mediator to maintain compatibility with evolving CMM controllers and inspection software. The fee covers critical updates, ongoing compatibility and support. If maintenance lapses, accumulated fees must be paid retroactively to restore and update Mediator to the current version.

Are there any legal constraints for using Mediator?

No. Mediator does not violate any intellectual property. It provides interoperability between machines and inspection software already in the CMM market and adds functionality on top. Mediator is already used by many CMM manufacturers, retrofitters and end users worldwide.
