Mapper
Calibrate any CMM without OEM software. Import, modify and export error maps for Hexagon, Mitutoyo, Renishaw, Zeiss and more — in minutes — so you cut retrofit time and expand the brands you can service.
The freedom to service every major CMM from one platform
Mapper gives calibrators the freedom to service all major CMMs from a single, intuitive platform. It imports, reads and modifies error maps from both controllers and PC software — so you can calibrate Hexagon, Mitutoyo, Renishaw, Zeiss and more without relying on their manufacturers' software.
Service more brands, in less time, for less cost
Easy & friendly
An intuitive wizard simplifies editing error maps, letting you offer calibration services across all CMM brands without a steep learning curve.
Vendor independence
Calibrate all major CMMs without relying on their manufacturers — imports, reads and modifies error maps from both controllers and PC software.
Expand your business
Service additional CMM brands with confidence, opening new revenue and growing your calibration practice.
Reduce cost & time
Eliminate the need to create error maps from scratch. Dramatically cut calibration time and lower retrofit costs on every job.
Everything an error-map workflow needs
Error-map handling
Import, read, modify and export/resave all error maps — working seamlessly with maps located either in the CMM controller or in the CMM PC software.
Compatibility
Mapper supports all leading controller maps, enabling a new level of calibration freedom.
Parameter calculation
Easily calculate linearity and squareness, guided by a user-friendly wizard.
Cross-format conversion
Effortless conversion of error-map formats following data collection — build or convert maps based on your preferred format and values.
Easy purchasing
Rent and pay for a Mapper license online, with different pricing levels based on the duration you need for the retrofit.
Installation flexibility
Install Mapper on any PC — the technician's, or the PC used for data collection.
From an existing map to a corrected machine
Import the error map
Read the existing map from the CMM controller or the CMM PC software.
Back up the original
Keep a copy of the imported map before changing anything, so you always have a fallback.
Edit with the wizard
Modify the map and calculate new linearity and squareness values, guided step by step.
Convert the format
Convert the map to the format and values you need for the target controller or PC software.
Export & resave
Write the updated map back to the controller or place it in the relevant PC directory.

Which tool do I need?
Mapper, XM Comp and Mediator cover different parts of the calibration workflow. Many calibrators use more than one.
Use Mapper when…
You need to create a new error map or work with one that already exists — building, importing, editing, recalculating, converting or resaving it.
Use XM Comp when…
You need to create or restructure a map from live laser measurement. Explore XM Comp →
Use Mediator when…
You want to run any CMM software on any CMM — e.g. PC-DMIS on a Mitutoyo machine — keeping your existing controller with no hardware retrofit. Explore Mediator →

Frequently asked questions
What type of CMMs does Mapper support?
Mapper supports all Mitutoyo automatic CMMs and controllers (UC200, UC400), all DEA and B&S (Hexagon) controllers (FB2, B3C, DC, RC1), Zeiss (C99), Wenzel and LK. Mapper currently does not support old Zeiss controllers (C98), Sheffield maps, Coord3, and Metrolog, as well as manual CMMs.
Does Mapper require special hardware?
Generally, no. Mapper is installed on the calibrator PC and does not require any special hardware. If the controller requires a specific communication connector (like GPIB, UCcom or RS232), then the PC on which Mapper is installed needs to include the relevant communication boards to support these connections (e.g. a PCI board for UCcom).
Can I use Mapper to drive the CMM and collect compensation values, too?
Yes. Mapper provides a special app, called “XM-Comp”, which can drive almost all CMM models and collect the data using a Renishaw XL-80 laser. XM-Comp does not support compensation value collection using step-gauges or KOBA gauges, and is not part of this license — to use XM-Comp, please contact us. In most cases the calibrator uses a part program (which the client can provide) to drive the machine and generate the compensation values; to drive a CMM with your own program in your own CMM client, use our Mediator software.
Is it recommended to back up the map before changing it?
Yes. Create a backup of the retrieved map before updating it — simply copy the imported file. If the map you updated and exported back does not work, you can always export the backup map you saved on your PC.
How does Mapper handle DC controller lockdown?
Mapper creates an automatic backup of the original map in Hexagon's DC controllers. So if the controller locks down after an update and the CMM stops responding, you can contact us and we will open the controller for you to restore the backup map saved on it.
How does Mapper provide online support?
We provide online support for Mapper. Contact us by email and ask for online support — our team will use TeamViewer to connect to your PC and help you in real time.
When does the rental license expire?
The Mapper license expires on the last day of the rental period, by midnight. In some cases it might still work after midnight, but it will expire during the next day.
Are there any legal constraints for using Mapper?
Mapper does not violate any IP. It simply gives you access to a CMM's error maps and builds additional functionality on top of it. Mapper is already used by many CMM calibration companies and retrofitters.
What does the trial version include?
The Mapper trial lets you import any error map from the supported CMMs, store them on your PC and edit/update them in the Mapper editor. The trial does not include saving the updated map back to the controller — to do that, select one of our packages and rent a license.
